Bay Area Pinoys celebrate Pacquiao's victory at Henry’s

Henry’s, a restaurant music lounge in South San Francisco, California, was packed for the championship bout last Saturday (Sunday in Manila) between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto. Filipino-American documentary photographer Rick Rocamora was there to capture the excitement and the joyous mood at the end. Rocamora has been documenting the overseas Filipino community for years and is best known for his documentation and advocacy of elderly Filipino war veterans living in the United States.

Henry's is owned by Filipinos Henry and Marivic Concepcion, both long time musical performers at the Tonga Room of the swanky Fairmont Hotel in downtown San Francisco. With every table reserved in advance, Henry's was filled with Pacquiao fans from all over the Bay Area who brought their Filipino and non-Filipino friends, relatives and children to eat Filipino food, drink, and watch the fight on big television screens. They came wearing their Pacquiao t-shirts and Philippine flag jackets to celebrate Pacquiao's expected victory. Marivic Concepcion had to apologize to many customers who arrived without making reservations. "Every Pacquiao fight where we host a pay-per-view screening of the fight, we have to turn away customers without reservations," Henry Concepcion said. "Pacquiao is also good for business." - GMANews.TV
