Bantang pagprotesta sa kalye ni JDV minaliit

MANILA – Minaliit lamang ng isang kongresistang kaalyado ng administrasyon ang banta ni dating Speaker Jose de Venecia na dadalhin sa kalye ang pagbasura ng Kamara de Representantes sa impeachment complaint laban kay Pangulong Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Sa isang pahayag nitong Huwebes, sinabi ni Palawan Rep. Abraham Mitra na walang integridad si De Venecia upang makakuha ng suporta sa publiko upang sumama sa kanya na magprotesta sa lansangan. "For JDV to become a poster boy for good government is like Bin Laden winning the Nobel peace prize or the respected Ramon Revilla Sr. serving as a spokesman for the two-child policy," patutsada ni Mitra. "If he joins the parliament of the streets, then I doubt, given his record, if he will be able attract followers. If he organizes a march I bet that those who will be joining him will be so few that it won't be called a demonstration but jaywalking by a few," pahayag nito. Si Mitra ay anak ng pumanaw na si dating Speaker Ramon Mitra na tumakbong presidential candidate noong 1992 sa ilalim ng bandera ng Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino, kung saan nakalaban niya sa kumbensyon si dating Pangulong Fidel Ramos. Nang manalo si Mitra sa kumbensyon ng partido, tumiwalag si Ramos kasama si De Venecia at itinatag ng dalawa ang partidong Lakas. Kasunod nito ay itinuloy ni Ramos ang kanyang kandidatura sa panguluhang halalan at nanalong presidente noong 1992. Matapos ibasura ng House justice committee sa botong 42-8 ang impeachment complaint nitong Miyerkules, sinabi ni De Venecia na handa siyang dalhin sa lansangan ang usapin ng impeachment laban kay Arroyo. Ngunit sa halip na sa lansangan mag-ingay, sinabi ni Antipolo City Rep. Roberto “Robbie" Puno na mas makabubuting sa loob na lamang ng Kongreso isiwalat ni De Venecia ang iba pa nitong sasabihin. “JDV is still a congressman and can avail of the Privilege Hour on the House floor where he can say anything he wants to say about anything. For him to say that he will go to the Supreme Court or to the streets for redress of his grievances is to dishonor and belittle the very institution that for so many years honored him as its speaker," payo ng kongresista. Hamon sa CBCP Hinamon naman ni Northern Samar Rep. Paul Daza, kasapi ng Liberal Party, ang ilang opisyal ng Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) na tukuyin ang mga kongresistang tumanggap umano ng suhol para ‘patayin’ ang bagong impeachment complaint. “I can't speak for others but I know I didn't get any money nor was I offered... Also the bishop should name names instead of making a blanket statement, in fairness to other members of the House," pakiusap ni Daza. Para kay Quezon City Rep. Matias Defensor, tagapangulo ng komite, “black propaganda" lamang umano ang alegasyon na nagkaroon ng lagayan ng P100,000 hanggang P500,000 sa isang pulong na naganap sa Linden Suites sa Pasig City noong Martes ng gabi. Sinabi niya na walang silang nabalitaang pulong at taktika lamang umano ang naturang impormasyon para siraan ang Kamara dahil sa pagkabasura ng impeachment complaint. Idinagdag naman ni Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga na ang alegasyon ng suhulan ay hindi lamang paninirang-puri sa mga kongresista kundi sa buong institusyon ng Kamara. “I did not receive any money in opposing the impeachment complaint. The allegation that each of the congressmen received P500,000 to P1,000,000 in order to kill the impeachment complaint is very serious," ayon sa kongresista. “ It is an attack not only against the members of the House but also the House itself as an institution. And the basic rule of fair play and due process demand that the congressmen alluded to should be named. In so doing, those who are not mentioned would be cleared. As for those congressmen who would be named, they would be given the chance to defend themselves. General and sweeping allegations of bribery have no room in our Constitution and legal system," paliwanag pa ni Barzaga. Ngunit kung si Cibac Party-list Rep. Joel Villanueva ang tatanungin, hindi umano maiiwasan na pagdudahan ang mga kongresista na tumanggap ng suhol dahil hindi naman nila ito sinasagot ng direkta sa mamamayan. -- Fidel Jimenez, GMANews.TV
