Women’s world pool: Amit in finals

Philippine's Rubilen Amit showed once again why she is the diminutive giant killer in the 2007 Amway WPA Women's World 9-Ball championship. A day after eliminating former world champion Allison "The Duchess of Doom" Fisher of Great Britain, and several hours after defeating back-to-back champion Ga Young Kim of Korea, 7-2, in the quarterfinals, Amit went on to take the first finals spot of the tournament with a 9-6 win over Yukiko Yamanishi of Japan in the final-four round of the $20,000 tournament. Amit will face the winner of the other semifinal match between Xiao Ting Pan of China and Pei Chun Tsai of Chinese Taipei. Amit defeated Chan Ya-ting and Kao Shu-pin of Chinese-Taipei and Janine Schanan of Germany in her first three matches. She suffered a defeat at the hands of Makiko Takagi of Japan last Friday before booking a spot in the elimination rounds with a stinging victory over Fisher. The Filipina entered the last-8 round with a 7-1 win over Chang Ya-ting of Chinese-Taipei late Saturday night. It was a different victory as she has to scrape every inch of strength to score a 7-6 win over Diana Stezcny also last Saturday in the last-16 event. And to show everyone that her victory over Fisher was no fluke, Amit added Ga, known in billiards circle as the Little Devil Girl and the top favorite, among her victims. - GMANews.TV
