SILVER SCREEN AWARDEE. Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho garnered a Silver Screen Award from the US International Film and Video Festival last June 7, 2008. Teresa Ranoco, host Ms. Jessica Soho, executive producer Lee Joseph Castel and cameraman Leo Marzan.
Episode on June 14, 2008 Saturday, 8:30 PM Sampaguita Sampaguita symbolizes our being Filipino, that’s why on 1934 it was declared the National Flower of the Philippines. But aside from smelling its wonderful scent, there are now other uses of sampaguita. Available nowadays are sampaguita lotion, hand sanitizer, air freshener and soap. Aside from these, there is also sampaguita ice cream that could be tasted as well! But in San Pedro, Laguna, considered as Sampaguita Capital of the Philippines, there are risks that the sweet smell of our national flower would perish. Because what used to be a large area meant for sampaguita plantations, are now residential areas. Cake The star dessert of every table in any occasion. What else, but cake! From Egypt where it is believed to have originated, up to Italy where it was claimed to have been used as an offering for Roman Gods, cake has really became part of important celebrations in the whole world. Here in the Philippines, we have our own version of cake ornamented with fresh fruits and flowers, expensive gems such as swarovski and crystal, and there are even some cakes designed by famous fashion designers such as Rajo Laurel and Frederick Peralta. Amazing Disable In any field, physical disability should not be a hindrance in achieving our dreams. Eric Weihenmeyer, an American, went blind because of a severe illness. But the loss of sight did not prevent him from reaching the peak of the world’s highest mountain – Mt. Everest! Eric is now in the Philippines, this time to reach the summit of Montalban! But Filipinos won’t surely be missed out. Although Ayra Nepacina has a cerebral palsy, she is also an amazing ice skater. Pedro Sollique on the other hand, was amputated, but is now the country’s representative to 2008 Beijing Paralympics in the field of sailing. "Daboy" Last Saturday, action superstar Rudy “Daboy" Fernandez passed away after more than two years of battling periampullary cancer. Periampullary cancer is an exceptional type of cancer which tears down the pancreas of a human being. The cancer could spread to the vital organs of our body. Those who are 40 years or older are more prone to this illness. But like any other maladies, periampullary cancer could be treated if diagnosed early. Several big names in show business and politics came to mourn. Thousands of Daboy’s fans also lined up just to take a final glimpse on their idol.
