US ship coming to help retrieve victims of sea tragedy

MANILA, Philippines - President George W. Bush promised Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila) to send US Navy ship to help in the rescue and retrieval operation of the victims of the sinking of MV Princess of the Stars, a report said. Bush made the promise at a meeting with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in Washington DC, saying the US would send aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan to assist in the retrieval operation. He also expressed sympathies and sent condolences for the families of the victims of the tragedy off Sibuyan Island in Romblon province last Saturday. The two heads of states talked about issues of common interest to both countries such as food security. Bush also assured Arroyo that the US would continue to support the Philippines and increase food aid. Bush lauded Arroyo for her firm stand against terrorism. Arroyo thanked the US for being a true ally in strengthening the Philippine economy and democracy in the country's bid for a "First World" status after 20 years. She said that RP-US ties are strong. Arroyo added that she is going to pay a visit to the US congress to talk about important concerns for the Philippines, especially food security and defense. - GMANews.TV
