Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya – A car mishap saved an Indian national from a kidnap-for-ransom gang which held him several days in a grassy lot near a resort in Barangay Masoc here.

Acting provincial police director Supt. Domingo Lucas identified the victim as Harjinder Singh, 34, and a resident of Angeles City, Pampanga.

Two of the suspects, identified as Ernesto Martin and Daniel Cruz, were arrested while driving the victim's car - a silver Hyundai compact car - which figured in a vehicular accident in Villaverde town Thursday morning.

The incident started around 9 a.m. Tuesday when the Indian businessman - who was collecting loan repayments from clients in Bamban town in Tarlac province - was abducted by four men.

The gang brought the victim to their mountain lair here on that same day.

As negotiations for his release started, police were called to an accident in Villaverde town, Nueva Vizcaya.

As police investigated the accident, probers discovered that the vehicle belonged to a reported kidnap victim flashed by PNP Tarlac.

After a tactical interrogation, policemen were immediately dispatched to rescue Singh.

"A third suspect, Johnny Wilson, served as sentry while the two suspects were away. He became wary when his companions failed to return, so he tied the victim to a tree," Lucas said.

A manhunt has been ordered to locate the gang's mastermind, who was identified by his colleagues as a certain "Poly".

This man is the same person who was negotiating with Singh's wife for a ransom money, Lucas said. – Abe Almirol, GMANews.TV
