Teen weightlifter cracks RP Olympic team

The 15th RP Olympian is a 16-year-old. Hidilyn Diaz was given a special wild-card berth by the International Weightlifting Federation, making her the youngest Filipino to earn a trip to the Beijing Games, the BusinessMirror quoting a source reported. Diaz, who is currently training in China, is the first Filipino weightlifter to be named to the Olympic team since 1988. She joins Harry Tañamor (boxing); Tshomlee Go and Mary Antoinette Rivero (taekwondo); Miguel Molina, Ryan Arabejo, Daniel Coakley, James Walsh and Christel Simms (swimming); Sheila Mae Perez and Rexel Ryan Fabrega (diving); Mark Javier (archery); Eric Ang (shooting); and Henry Dagmil and Marestella Torres (long jump) on the national team. Dagmil and Torres, by virtue of the Olympic Games’ mandatory rule of sending track-and-field athletes, were also late additions. GMANews.tv
