Phivolcs rules out damage, tsunami from Sunday night quake

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) ruled out any chance of damage or a tsunami caused by a quake that rocked parts of Luzon Sunday night. Phivolcs director Renato Solidum Jr. said the quake was measured strongest at Intensity 4 and would not be enough to generate a tsunami. "Masyadong mahina para makadulot, yan so far ang data na nakuha namin (It's not powerful enough to cause a tsunami, based on the data we got so far)," Solidum said in an interview on dzBB radio, when asked about the chances of a tsunami caused by the quake. Solidum cited initial information showing the quake occurred at 8:01 p.m. and originated from the Philippine Sea east of Aurora province. He said the quake was felt at Intensity 4 in Baler in Aurora; Gabaldon in Nueva Ecija; Plaridel in Bulacan; and in Manila.
