Arroyo to welcome passengers on PAL express inaugural flight to Samar

MANILA, Philippines - President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will welcome the first 76 passengers on the inaugural flight of the Philippine Airlines' low-fare "PAL Express" to Calbayog City in Western Samar on Tuesday. A Malacañang statement Sunday night said Mrs Arroyo wants to stress her "Super Regions" program that includes the linking of the country via roads, ports and airports. It said the President expressed "desire" to take part in PAL Express' inaugural flight when she was told about it by Calbayog City Mayor Mel Senen Sarmiento in an earlier meeting at Malacañang. PAL Express is the low-fare package that PAL launched last May 5. It serves mainly domestic routes and secondary routes to smaller airports that cannot accommodate regular PAL jet aircraft. After the welcome ceremonies, Mrs Arroyo will proceed to Gandara town in Western Samar to formally open the recently completed Gandara-Matuguinao bridge. She will then convene the Regional Development Council of Region 8 to get an update on the devastation wrought by Typhoon "Frank." - GMANews.TV
