Dagupan teen wins int'l sudoku competition

MANILA, Philippines - A 14-year-old Math wizard bested 150 players in an international sudoku competition in Singapore last week.
Sarah Jane Cua, a sophomore student at the Pangasinan Universal Institute, bagged the first place in Brand’s Asia Pacific Open 2008 held at Singapore’s Vivo City from July 11-13.
In an interview with GMA News, Cua said she edged out her competitors not only with her mathematical genius but also with her speed.
Sudoku is a logical puzzle played by filling in the game board so that the numbers 1 through 9 occur exactly once in each row, column, and 3x3 box.
The Filipino sudoku champion walked away with a $10,000 cash prize, in addition to a trophy and a certificate.
Cua will return to Singapore on Friday to compete in the International Mathematics competition. - GMANews.TV
