Death toll from storm ‘Helen’ rises to 2 - NDCC


MANILA, Philippines - The death toll from tropical storm "Helen" has risen to two as of Thursday noon, according to the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC). In its report as of 12 noon Thursday, the NDCC identified the second fatality as Alex Lacamento, 22, a resident of Paoay in Ilocos Norte. The NDCC said he died from a snake bite. The first fatality was identified as Jonathan Dulay Salmin, 20, who died after his truck fell off a ravine in Bontoc town in Mt Province. On the other hand, the NDCC said it remains in blue alert to monitor the track and development of "Helen." NDCC also advised disaster coordinating councils in Central and Southern Luzon and in Central Visayas on the possible effects of the southwest monsoon enhanced by "Helen." The NDCC said "Helen" had affected some 4,606 families or 19,150 people in 82 villages in nine towns and two cities in two provinces in Ilocos and Cagayan Valley. Damage to livestock and agriculture so far was pegged at P45,000. - GMANews.TV
