Militants urge students to leave classrooms and join Black Friday rally

MANILA, Philippines - Militant students at the University of the Philippines (UP) Manila campus stormed classrooms before noon Friday to "recruit" others students to join a "Black Friday" rally against rising costs of living. Radio dzBB reported that militants carrying megaphones entered classrooms and told the students to "leave their professors and books" to join the rally. The report said hundreds of students in Manila-based campuses walked out and converged at Plaza Salamanca at the corner of Taft Avenue and T.M. Kalaw Street. Many of the students at the rally called for the junking of the oil deregulation law and for a rollback of tuition rates. Organizers said they "recruited" students from Adamson University, Philippine Christian University, Lyceum of the Philippines, Letran College, and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. They were to meet up with students from the UP Diliman campus, University of Santo Tomas, Polytechnic University of the Philippines and University of the East at Plaza Miranda Friday afternoon. - GMANews.TV
