De la Hoya ‘open’ to bout with Pacquiao - official

MANILA, Philippines – It looks like a prospective Manny Pacquiao bout is beginning to entice Oscar de la Hoya, if it already hasn’t. A high-ranking official of de la Hoya’s promotional outfit Golden Boy Promotions said the Hall-of-Fame boxer is “considering fighting Pacquiao". Eric Gomez, the GBP vice president for matchmaking, said he had spoken to de la Hoya and the former pound-for-pound king said he is interested to take on Pacquiao. “At the moment… [Oscar’s] open to doing the fight," Gomez told the Sports Chat radio program on dzSR Sports Radio Tuesday. “[He’s] thinking it over. And he’s going to make a decision shortly but he’s considering it and open to doing the fight." Talk of a Pac-man-Golden Boy bout has swelled after Freddie Roach told boxing scribes Dennis Principe and Ronnie Nathanielsz last week that the best fight for Pacquiao would be against de la Hoya. “I think Manny can knock Oscar de la Hoya out," Roach told the same program hosted by Principe last Thursday. Gomez is expected to arrive in the country Wednesday. He will attend the AJ Banal-Rafael Concepcion world-title fight in the weekend. – GMANews.TV
