Heavy downpour causes flash floods in Metro Manila - report

MANILA, Philippines - The sudden noontime downpour Sunday caused flash floods that stranded several persons in some parts of Metro Manila, a radio report said. In Manila, radio dzBB's Lito Laparan reported that gutter-deep floods hit Dapitan and Laong Laan Streets in Sampaloc, prompting many residents to ask if a new storm was lashing Metro Manila. Floods also hit the Liwasang Bonifacio area, even as children were seen taking advantage of the rains to take a bath. Some residents charged jeep drivers payment for escorting jeeps in underpasses to help them avoid open manholes. At the Mabuhay Rotonda in Quezon City, passengers who had a hard time waiting for jeeps complained that the wind broke their umbrellas. In an area in Kamuning in Quezon City, dzBB's Tuesday Niu reported that traffic aides and Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) crews roamed the area looking for a tarpaulin blown away by a gust of wind, saying it may cause a power outage if it gets snagged with a power line. From Makati City to the airport area in Parañaque City, dzBB's Bernie Morales reported near-zero visibility in traffic heading towards the Ninoy Aquino International Airport area. - GMANews.TV
