PC maker rolls out new products to maintain lead


MANILA, Philippines - Taiwanese computer maker Asus rolled out two new products in the country on Tuesday, July 29, in an attempt to sustain its lead in the red-hot sub-laptop category as well as in the desktop segment. In a press briefing, the local Asus office bared that it has launched locally the Eee PC 1000H, the latest version of the worldwide hit Eee PC line. Like its predecessors, the new product have built-in SSD (Solid State Drive) technology, which allows lower power consumption, faster boot up, and less susceptibility to shock damage. The Eee PC 1000H sports the Asus Super Hybrid Engine for longer battery life, and has storage capacity of up to 20GB Internet with a massive 5GB of downloads per day. The new Eee PC model runs on the Atom processor – Intel’s smallest ever processor. The unit, which is available both in Windows XP Home and Linux, being sold locally at P29,900. On the other hand, the Eee PC's desktop cousin, the Eee Box, is aimed at replacing bulky desktop PCs. The machine is merely 1L in size and as slim as a paperback novel. The Eee Box also supports the latest WiFi 802.11n wireless standard Compared to full-sized desktop solutions, the Eee Box reduces power consumption by up to 90 percent. Also running on Intel's Atom chip and Windows Home edition, the Eee Box comes with a 16-inch LCD monitor for P24,900. - GMANews.TV
