Tanker Molina sets modest goal in Beijing


MANILA, Philippines – Filipino swimmer Miguel Molina is setting a modest goal when he competes against the world’s best in next week’s Beijing Olympics. Molina will be the in the limelight being the Philippines’ top bet in swimming after winning the Best Male Athlete title in the 2007 Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand. Molina said that he is well prepared and stronger compared to the time when he saw action in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. He said that setting a personal best or setting new Philippine records is his main concern in Beijing. “There are factors that I have no control of like the swim of my rivals. My goal, which I believe I can achieve, is to establish new Philippine records in my events and if I did it but still finish last, I will be happy and contended because I did my best," said Molina, who will swim in the 200m breast and 200 individual medleys. Joining Molina in Beijing are James Walsh, Ryan Arabejo, Daniel Coakley and Christel Simms. Among the five, Molina and Walsh are two-time Olympians after donning the national colors in Athens four years ago. Walsh will compete in the 200m butterfly, Arabejo sees action in the 1500m freestyle, Coakley swims in the 50 freestyle while lone lady swimmer Simms competes in the 50m and 100m freestyle. – GMANews.TV
