High Chair to launch 2 new poetry books


MANILA, Philippines – High Chair, the only Philippine press dedicated to publishing poetry, will launch two new books, elsewhere held and lingered by Conchitina Cruz, and Parang by Mesándel Virtusio Arguelles, on August 8, 4:00p.m. at the Vargas Museum at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City. elsewhere held and lingered is Conchitina Cruz’s third book, following Disappear (High Chair, 2004), and Dark Hours (UP Press, 2005), which won the National Book Award for Poetry. A recipient of Fulbright and Rockefeller Foundation grants, Cruz teaches creative writing and literature at UP Diliman. Also to be launched is Parang, Arguelles’ fourth collection. His other books of poetry are Menos Kuwarto (Pithaya Press, 2002), Iláhas (High Chair, 2004), and Hindi Man Lang Nakita (High Chair, 2005). Arguelles has received the Carlos Palanca and Maningning Miclat awards for poetry.  The ninth issue of High Chair’s online journal (highchair.com.ph), meanwhile, will also be released online on the same day. The online journal is edited by Alex Gregorio and Vincenz Serrano. The new issue includes new work by High Chair editors Allan Popa, Mabi David, and Kristine Domingo, as well as excerpts from the new books of Cruz and Arguelles. The ninth issue also features new work by Elizabeth Willis, Martin Anderson, Jason Tabinas, Rebecca Givens, Benjamin Paloff, Allan Derain, Jenn Morea, Eva Hooker, Kristian Cordero, and Gregg Friedberg. - GMANews.TV
