Japan extends y24.8-B loan for RP environmental projects

MANILA, Philippines - Japan has extended a Y24.8-billion (P10.207 billion) loan to the Philippines for environmental development projects, the Japanese embassy announced Friday.

A statement on the embassy website said the loan aims to facilitate investments that contribute to preserving the natural environment and improving living conditions.

"This Environmental Development Project is composed of provisions of credits and technical assistance through the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) to private companies, government-owned and controlled corporations, and local government units, aiming at facilitating investment activities which contribute to preserving the natural environment and improving living conditions," the statement said.

Japan Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura informed Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo of Japan's plan for the loan as part of official development assistance loan (ODA).

Romulo knew about the assistance last July 23, on the occasion of the Japan-Philippine Foreign Ministerial meeting held in Singapore.- GMANews.TV
