Inuming Pinoy

Episode on August 7, 2008 Thursday night after Saksi This Thursday midnight, quench your thirst with delicious drinks that are truly 100% Pinoy! Coffee was discovered by Muslims in the highlands of Ethiopia during the 9th century, and from then on, became one of the most popular beverages in the planet. In the Philippines, the town of Amadeo, Cavite is known as “the Coffee Capital of the Philippines" for its vast coffee plantations. Miriam Quiambao visits Amadeo and follows what coffee berries go through to become aromatic coffee beans. She also visits Kape Isla, a coffee shop located in the high-end Serendra compound that honors the best of Philippine coffee: barako, robusta and even the expensive alamid coffee! Miriam also discovers that aside from being your usual morning beverage, coffee has other uses! World renowned painter Sunshine Plata exploits ground coffee juice as a medium in her paintings. Miriam also learns that coffee is used as a beautifying agent – from coffee soaps and lotions to coffee mud foot spa and coffee scrubs. Meanwhile, Joaquin Valdes drives to Tayabas, Quezon to taste the famous coconut vodka, known locally as Lambanog! Quezon Province’s throat flamer now boasts of different flavors, from fruity tangs like grape and strawberry to preserved food flavor like prune and even bubble gum! Joaquin also gulps wines made from various tropical fruits. Because of our vast specie of flora, we now have wines extracted from fruits like rambutan, mango, strawberry, bignay (berry) and even guyabano!

May rambutan wine, mango wine, strawberry wine, bignay wine, at maging guyabano wine!
