Report: DOTC mulls suit vs building owner in Manila

MANILA, Philippines - The Transportation department is considering filing a suit against the owner of the Good Earth Plaza building in downtown Manila for some P700,000 in losses caused by Monday's "motel fire." Radio dzBB reported that DOTC Undersecretary Guiling Mamondiong said the P700,000 represents the amount of lost income for the disruption of the Light Rail Transit Line 1's operations. Mamondiong said the fire forced the LRT to suspend operations at its Carriedo station near the Good Earth Plaza building, then to cut its operations in half. LRT 1 operations resumed Tuesday morning. On the other hand, Mamondiong said the DOTC is consulting with its lawyers to see if they can similarly charge the owner of the Pure Gold mall in Pasay City. The Pasay City fire also disrupted LRT 1 operations, particularly at its Libertad station. - GMANews.TV
