MANILA, Philippines - The "motel fire" that hit a commercial establishment in Manila's downtown Sta. Cruz district broke out again after midnight Tuesday, prompting firefighters to rush to the scene.
DZBB reported Wednesday that the fire started at the ground floor of the Good Earth Plaza building that houses several establishments, including a motel on the sixth floor.
No one was reported injured as firefighters and fire volunteers rushed to the scene to put out the fire, but kept watch over the area to make sure it wouldn’t flare up anew.
Monday's fire lasted more than 20 hours and disrupted traffic and Light Rail Transit operations in the area.
Arson investigators suspect the fire stemmed from pieces of rubber in the first floor of the building.
Injuries
Latest report indicate that three firemen and one volunteer firefighter sustained injuries while fighting the "motel fire" when it first broke out early Tuesday and lasted more than 20 hours in downtown Manila.
DZBB's Tuesday Niu reported Tuesday night that the four sustained injuries but are now in stable condition after getting timely treatment.
Acting Manila fire marshal Supt. Felixberto Abrenica identified the firemen as SFO1 Richard Fadera (San Nicolas), FO3 Roland Pineda (Intramuros) and SFO1 Gabriel Jose (San Lazaro); and volunteer Exel dela Cruz.
Fadera, Pineda and Dela Cruz suffered burns in their hands, while San Jose had difficulty breathing after exposure to smoke.
But Abrenica said the four are okay now, after being attended to by emergency medical services personnel. - GMANews.TV
