MMDA's Agaw Manibela campaign nets 40 violators

MANILA, Philippines - The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has penalized about 40 traffic violators in their “Oplan Agaw Manibela” drive over the week, Chairman Bayani Fernando announced Sunday. Fernando said the drivers were slapped with penalties and their vehicles dragged to MMDA impounding areas for staying in designated loading and unloading spots along the 24-kilometer Edsa beyond the 30-second allowable time. No force was used in the implementation of the said campaign, which is aimed at minimizing traffic congestion in Edsa, the MMDA chief assured. “Hindi kami gumamit ng dahas sa pagpapatupad nito. We tell the driver of his violation at pinakikiusapan namin sila na bitawan na ang manibela, ibalik ang pamasahe ng mga pasahero bago mag-takeover aming operatiba sa manibela upang dalhin ang bus sa aming impounding area (We don’t use force. We tell the driver his violations and ask him to let our personnel drive the bus to our impounding area),” Fernando said. He added that the MMDA traffic operations center are also looking into the drivers record to check on whether they have existing traffic violations or unpaid penalties. “Those who have existing traffic violations or unpaid fines will have their licenses suspended,” he said. Aside from these, Fernando said he has also instructed his men to check on the roadworthiness of the vehicles. - GMANews.TV
