BAYOMBONG, Phillippines – A scion of a pioneering batch of Indians who had settled in this capital town of Nueva Vizcaya province was shot dead by still unidentified assailants before noon on Wednesday.
Kaur Harbender, a 37-year old woman of Indian descent, was gunned down in front of her house in Barangay Don Mariano Perez at around 11:05 a.m., according to Senior Superintendent Pedro Daguilan.
Danguilan has just taken over as Nueva Vizcaya provincial director.
Harbender was taken to the Veteran's Regional Hospital in Barangay Magsaysay, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Harbender is a popular figure here among small businesses because of her micro-lending business.
Witnesses told police that two unidentified men on board a motorcycle waited at a nearby variety store in front of the victim's house at Don Mariano Perez here.
The tow men waited for the victim while drinking softdrinks.
Police found an empty shell from a 45-caliber pistol at the place of incident.
The motive of the killing remains to be established, although insiders at Camp Saturnino Dumlao do not discount the possibility that Harbender's murder is connected to the death of her brother, Bender Singh, two years ago.
Singh was also killed by unknown gunmen at the Bayombong cockpit arena. – Abe Almirol, GMANews.TV
