MANILA, Philippines - Philippine National Police chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr ordered Thursday the summary dismissal of three policemen linked to ballot snatching during the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) election last Monday.
In a radio interview, Razon said the three betrayed their sworn duty to protect the sanctity of the ballot along with peace and order in the elections.
They are: SPO1 Cairodin Tomawis, PO1 Alfatta Tomawis, and PO3 Ibrahim Macariwang - all of the Barira Municipal Police Station in Shariff Kabunsuan.
"Ating pinoproseso ang summary dismissal proceedings sa kanila. Nag-file tayo ng administrative charges (We are now processing summary dismissal proceedings against them. We have filed administrative charges)," Razon said in an interview on dwIZ radio.
The top PNP official said initial investigation showed that one of the suspects was a relative of a candidate, who he identified as "Assemblyman Tomawis."
Razon did not make clear if he was referring to Assemblyman Bongarsa Tomawis Jr.
"Di yan dapat gawin ng pulis na nag-aalaga ng sanctity ng ballot at katahimikan during elections (Still, that is not a reason to violate the sanctity of the ballot and betray their duty to ensure clean elections)," Razon said.
Earlier, the PNP detained three policemen believed to be involved in the ballot-snatching incident in the province of Shariff Kabunsuan.
PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Nicanor Bartolome said the three are currently detained at the headquarters of the Police Regional Office ARMM in Camp Gen. Pendatun in Parang, Maguindanao. - GMANews.TV
