PCG to enforce ban on small fishing boats in north Luzon

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Coast Guard on Wednesday ordered its personnel in northern Luzon to strictly enforce a ban on small fishing boats from leaving shore as typhoon "Karen" (Nuri) approaches. Radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported Wednesday that Coast Guard commandant Vice Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo said he does not want fishermen going missing or boats sinking in the typhoon's wake. "Karen" was expected to make landfall over the northern tip of Cagayan Wednesday morning. On the other hand, Tamayo said the Coast Guard will permit the movement of vessels between Manila and Visayas and Mindanao, as the brunt of "Karen" was to hit northern Luzon. - GMANews.TV
