DAVAO CITY, Philippines - Some Manila-based journalists covering the visit of Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno to Mindanao suffered slight injuries after figuring in a six-vehicle accident in Davao City Tuesday evening.

Radio dzBB's Benjie Liwanag Jr, one of the journalists, said the damaged vehicles included the vehicle of Region 12 police head Chief Supt. Felizardo Serapio Jr.

He reported the Manila-based journalists were in four L-300 vans that had just entered the city proper when one of the vehicles in the convoy suddenly braked.

Aside from Liwanag, the reporters included Alcuin Papa (Philippine Daily Inquirer), Cecilia Suerte Felipe (Philippine Star), Christine Roque (NBN-4), Thea Alberto (Inquirer.net), Jaemie Quinto (RMN/dzXL), and Noel Alamar (ABS-CBN/dzMM).

Puno went to Mindanao this week to assess the situation of residents affected by fighting between government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) forces.

He will also oversee the hiring process of civilian volunteers that will be armed to protect their communities from rebel groups. - GMANews.TV
