Senator wants fake Websites probed

MANILA, Philippines - Senator Loren Legarda on Monday asked the Senate to investigate the existence of fake websites and electronic mail addresses using her name and soliciting funds. In a privilege speech, Legarda said she recently discovered a website using domain name lorenlegarda.com maintained by a certain J.S.Lim, who claims to be a resident of Singapore. She said the website was registered through a hosting party named Bluerazor, an internet hosting company based in Arizona, USA. She said aside from the website, emails suffixed with "@lorenlegarda.com" were also registered for use in the internet. The senator said if one attempts to send an email to the address suffixed "@lorenlegarda.com", the send will receive an automatic reply that contains an alleged letter from her soliciting funds "thus discrediting my person and integrity." "I strongly issue a disclaimer on these bogus websites that tend to mislead my constituents into believing principles and policies which I do not adhere to," Legarda said. The senator said she did not authorize the construction and maintenance of the said website and email addresses that carry her name as domain name. "There seems to be an apparent intention on the part of some unscrupulous personalities to deceive the public into believing false advocacies and information," Legarda said. She said the website and email addresses are part of the dirty trick and she knows who masterminded it but she refused to name him. "I know who he is," he told reporters before her privilege speech. Legarda said her official website is lorenlegarda.com.ph She said her office also maintains several email addresses to allow her to communicate with her constituents. The senator said she already alerted the law enforcement agencies about the matter and they are now investigating it. She also said that she wants the Senate to investigate the fake website as it "makes our respective Senate offices vulnerable to being discredited by people through deceit and fraud." - Amita Legaspi, GMANews.TV
