Cebu routs Batangas in Liga semis opener

MANILA, Philippines – The Cebu Niños coasted to a 99-80 rout of the Lipa/Batangas Barakos in the opener Wednesday of their Smart-Liga Pilipinas semifinals series at the New Cebu Coliseum in Cebu City.
Marlon Basco led the Niños’ charge scoring 17 points and grabbing 14 rebounds to go with two assists and three blocked shots as Cebu took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five duel.
The Niños will also host Game Two before the series shifts to Batangas for Games Three and Four. If necessary, Game Five will be in Cebu.
Cebu opened with a 7-0 run and never looked back as the Ninos sizzled on the floor, shooting 41-of-82. They also outrebounded the taller Barakos, 47-38, and dished out more assists, 19-12.
Stephen Padilla drained four three-pointers to support Basco with 15 points, while Jayford Rodriguez added 12.
Bonbon Custodio led the Barakos’ losing cause with 18 points, while Jeff Sanders and Jay-Ar Estrada posted 14 and 11 each. – GMANews.TV
