What? A social networking sites for pets?

MANILA, Philippines - The social networking frenzy has unbelievably extended down to animals, particularly to dogs. And as pet-lovers go gaga over this new trend, some predicts that pet social networking sites would become en vogue in the online culture. In an interview with GMANews’ Trisha Zafra, blogger and Internet librarian Arnold Zafra said he found the idea of pet social networking incredulous until the hype unfurled before his eyes. “At first hindi ako naniniwala. I can’t believe na maraming gano’ng tao na nag nakikipag interact online para lang sa mga pets nila (At first I was skeptical. I can’t believe that some people would actually interact online just for their pets)," Zafra said. He predicts that this new trend would be a hit as people would try to look for different niches to satisfy their interest, which according to Zafra is the main purpose of networking. “Actually, ‘yun ‘yung trend ngayon eh. Kanya-kanya na sila ng niche. Kanya-kanya na ng statistics, tapos, interest. Actually ‘yan naman ang purpose ng networking (It’s the latest trend. There are different niche, statistics and interest, which are actually the main purpose of networking)," Zafra added. The report said, these sites allow pet owners to involve their pets in social networking globally. Moreover, the report said, these sites allow owners to post their pet’s pictures and list all of its favorite activities. The owner could also create their pet profile, especially on the animal’s likes and dislikes, or they could even blog about their pet’s favorite toys and food. The report added, this new online frenzy is not just fun but it is also helpful for pet owners as site allow them to get involved in discussions and forums, and share their experiences on pet nursing. For one, Josephine Buenviaje, an owner of golden retriever named Matze, said she has learned a lot from www.dogster.com, where her dog is a member, as it offers educational tips on how she could take care of her dog better. “Sa golden retriever masama ‘yung masyadong pinapalo or hinahawakan ‘yung hip (I’ve learned that it’s not advisable to tap golden retrievers on their hip)," Buenviaje said. - GMANews.TV
