Ely Buendia at mother’s wake after checking out of hospital - wife

Pupil and ex-Eraserheads front man Ely Buendia was finally discharged from hospital Saturday afternoon. In an interview with GMA-7's Showbiz Central on Sunday, Ely’s wife, Diane Ventura, said the singer is now in stable condition and currently at the wake of his mother Lizette Buendia, who died days before their much awaited reunion concert last August 30. During the Eraserheads’ concert night at The Fort, Ely was rushed to the Makati Medical Center and later transferred to the Philippine Heart Center, where he went under the knife. "Ely is OK. He's doing fine, doing great. He was discharged from the hospital yesterday (Saturday) afternoon. Right now, nandun siya sa wake ng mom niya," Ventura said. Ventura said weeks before the concert, Buendia was already suffering from "severe emotional and physical stress." But she said: "Ely, being the professional that he is, being the strong person that he is, decided to continue with the show for the sake of his family." Ely’s erratic health condition prompted them to take some precautionary measures. "We really made it a point na kailangan meron mga doctors na naka-standby. Tapos 'yung roon niya nandun yung mga equipment to check his vital signs, blood pressure, and everything," she said. "Which is a good thing there was an ambulance ready rin, we were thinking one step ahead in case anything happen." Ventura said the incident created an impact on their son, whom she said saw everything. "Unfortunately he (the son) was there to witness Ely being pulled by a stretcher out of the room, that time I was panicking kasi siyempre father of my son," she said. "I kept comforting him and telling him that everything was going to be OK and his dad just [was so] exhausted from lack of sleep. Super love niya 'yung daddy niya. He is actually taking care of Ely, talagang tinatabihan niya matulog at pinapakain niya." Meanwhile, Ventura apologized to the band’s avid fans for the abrupt end of the August 30 concert. She also hinted at holding another concert. “First of all I'd like to thank the fans for understanding the situation. Hopefully Ely can make it up to you guys. Sorry sa nangyari, it can't be helped. I'm sure they understand the situation and we're happy that they do," she said. On August 30, the band’s much awaited concert reunion was cut short following Buendia’s heart attack. Ely was rushed to the Makati Medical Center and his former band mates, accompanied by Ely’s sister Lally, broke the sad news to thousands of fans who attended the concert. Organizers said fans understood the reasons for the abrupt end of the concert, but they requested for a follow-up reunion concert. On September 1, Ely was transferred to the Philippine Heart Center (PHC) where he underwent his third angioplasty operation. The following day, Ely was declared stable by his manager Day Cabuhat, adding that the singer-composer was “100-percernt fully restored." However, Buendia’s doctors advised him to stay in hospital for two more weeks for a cardiac rehabilitation. In 2007, Ely also suffered a heart attack while his new band Pupil was performing in Laguna. He underwent two angioplasty procedures at the PHC. - GMANews.TV
