RP's tallest building soon to rise in Taguig

MANILA, Philippines - Taguig City will soon become the site of the country’s tallest building, Mayor Freddie Tinga disclosed Monday. Tinga said Federal Land Tower, a real estate property developer, will construct a 66-storey building that will house a five-star hotel, as well as residential and commercial units. The mayor claimed the building will outclass the 55-storey Philippine Bank Communication (PBCom) Tower in Makati City, so far the highest edifice in the country with its 241-meter height, comprising 55 floors. “The completion of the country’s tallest building at The Fort will complement our efforts in promoting Taguig as a ‘total package’ city and will certainly put us in the tourism map of the Philippines,” Tinga said. The P20-billion building will be constructed on a 27-hectare lot in the North Bonifacio district , which is jointly owned by the Metrobank Group of Companies and the state-owned Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA). Tinga said the construction of the building will begin later this year.Federal Land, Inc., member of the business tycoon George TK Sy's Metrobank Group, will undertake the project. Tinga said the first 25 floors of the skyscraper will be occupied by the Grand Hyatt Hotel, which will have 500 to 600 rooms and high-luxury hotel facilities. “Taguig is fast becoming an ideal tourism destination in Metro Manila,” said Tinga said, adding that it would be the most ambitious project in the history of tall buildings in the country. Tinga said the Federal Land Tower will open more opportunities for the Taguig residents as it will generate more jobs. Meanwhile, Federal Land, Inc. president Alfred Ty said choosing Taguig City for the project was an "easy decision," citing the rapidly growing developments as a result of forward-looking urban planning schemes. - GMANews.TV
