Danish cyclist gets 2-year suspension for doping

COPENHAGEN, Denmark – Danish mountain bike rider Peter Riis Andersen, has received a two-year suspension after being barred from the Beijing Games for blood doping. The doping tribunal of the Sports Confederation of Denmark said Wednesday that Andersen's suspension starts retrospectively from July 22, the date he took his last flask of the blood-boosting drug EPO. During a televised news conference on July 29, Andersen said he had tested positive during a pre-Olympic test on June 25. The 28-year-old cyclist, who also is a medical student, was immediately removed from the Danish team for the Beijing Games. He then quit professional cycling. Riis Andersen won the Danish championships on July 20. He competed at the 2004 Athens Olympics, finishing 18th. – AP
