Imelda Marcos taken to hospital due to ankle sprain

MANILA, Philippines - Former first lady Imelda Marcos was taken to the Makati Medical Center on Saturday due to an ankle sprain, GMA News’ Weekend Report said early Sunday. Mrs Marcos’ spokesperson Ding Diaz said the former first lady consulted a doctor and had an x-ray of her ankle. Diaz declined to give more details. The report said Mrs Marcos left the hospital later in the day. Mrs Marcos gained fame for the extensive shoe collection and diamond-encrusted tiaras she left behind when she and her husband, the late dictator Ferdinand, fled the Philippines after his fall from power in a "people power" revolt in 1986. They went to Hawaii, where Ferdinand Marcos died in exile in 1989. She later returned to the Philippines and was an unsuccessful presidential candidate in 1998. She is a regular sight in Manila, where a new generation of Filipinos looks on her as a well-coiffed eccentric. - GMANews.TV
