LTFRB hints at possible taxi fare rollback

MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) hinted Monday at a possible rollback of taxi fares, if prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) go down. LTFRB chairman Thompson Lantion said a growing number of taxis had started using LPG for their fuel systems instead of regular gas or diesel. "Pag bumaba ang presyo, karamihan LPG gumagamit ng fuel system (Once LPG prices go down, we may see a rollback because many taxi drivers now use LPG for their fuel systems)," Lantion said in an interview on dzXL radio. But he said the taxi drivers will have to file a petition with the LTFRB for a rollback of fares. Taxi fares at present stand at P30 at flagdown. The LTFRB also requires passengers to pay a mandatory P10 "tip" to drivers of "authorized" cabs. "Tingnan nila kung bababa yan. Mag-file sila ng petition din na pagliban ang add-on na P10 (We'll see when LPG prices go down. It is likely the drivers or operators will first file a petition to remove the add-on P10)," Lantion said. - GMANews.TV
