Families of kidnapped victims in Basilan getting worried

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Families and relatives of the two aid workers who were abducted in Basilan are now worried over the situation of the victims, as negotiators struggle to establish communication with the captors, five days after the incident. Claretian priest Fr. Angel C. Calvo, president of the Nagdilaab Foundation, Inc. (NFI), said concern gripped the families and relatives of the victims since no detail, either positive or negative, is available days after the abduction. Esperancita E. Hupida of Basilan-based NFI and Millet Mendoza of Mercy Malaysia are still being held by their captors in Basilan. The two were among 10 others social workers who were earlier kidnapped by alleged members of the Abu-Sayyaf group, while on their way back from community visits on Monday. The rest of the group was able to escape while some were freed by the abductors. - BusinessWorld
