2 bridges in San Fernando, Romblon collapse

MANILA, Philippines - Two bridges in Romblon collapsed Saturday night due to torrential rains brought by typhoon Nina (Hagupit), a television report said Sunday. A GMA Flash Report said that the two bridges were connecting San Fernando town to Sibuyan Island, where the M/V Princess of the Stars capsized last June 21 at the height of typhoon "Frank." The incident prompted authorities to evacuate residents in the area. The report said the transportation system in the area has already been paralyzed. As of posting time, the report said power supply in San Fernando and in the neighboring towns of Cajidiocan and Magdiwang, has been cut off. Meanwhile, tropical storm Nina remained a threat to northeastern Luzon as it continued to move northeast, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said. In its 5 p.m. advisory, Pagasa said Nina was 420 kilometers northeast of Casiguran, Aurora. Nina has maintained maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph. It was moving west-northwest at 19 kph. - Aie Balagtas See, GMANews.TV
