TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwan's coast guard says an American pleasure boat with four crew disappeared off the island's east coast after losing power during a powerful typhoon.
Coast guard official Yang Chao-ching says the "Jade Princess" sent emergency signals 100 miles (160 kilometers) from the coastal city of Hualien late Sunday morning.
Yang said in a statement Monday that the boat was sailing from Malaysia to Okinawa in southern Japan. He did not provide the names or nationalities of the crew.
He says Japan's coast guard is searching for the vessel and Taiwan will send patrol boats and helicopters to assist the operation as soon as weather permits.
