Golden Boy to pulverize Pacman, RP solon predicts

MANILA, Philippines - Unable to stop the fight between World Boxing Council lightweight champion Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao and superstar Oscar De La Hoya, Cagayan de Oro Representative Rufus Rodriguez predicted Pacquiao will suffer a pulverizing loss to De La Hoya this December. Rodriguez said Pacquiao has a four-inch height disadvantage and he is going up two weight divisions after only one fight in the lightweight category to face De La Hoya. "He is going to be pulverized there. I believe he has no chance at all. Pacquiao will be destroyed by Dela Hoya," Rodriguez said in an article posted on the House of Representatives website. During the budget hearing of the Games and Amusement Board (GAB), Rodriguez said the fight with De La Hoya is something Pacquiao should not take considering their disparity in size. He added this is also the only fight of Pacquiao in which he can say with all honesty that commercialism should stop. "The way I see it, this is only money for Manny Pacquiao," Rodriguez said. During the hearing, GAB chairman Eric Buhain said the board made a resolution stating its position against the fight, when it learned of the fight scheduled in December. Buhain said the resolution was sent to the management of Pacquiao and even the international boxing bodies like the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO. "Alam po naman natin Pacquiao is a national treasure and we want to ensure his safety," Buhain said. But Buhain said there is no way the GAB can stop the fight especially since it will be held in the United States. The Nevada Boxing Commission has also allowed the fight to push through, Buhain said. - GMANews.TV
