Salvage crewmen locate pesticide inside 'Princess'

MANILA, Philippines - Salvage crewmen working on the MV Princess of the Stars have pinpointed the location of a pesticide shipment inside the capsized ship and have bored another hole into the hull. Radio dzBB reported that crew members from Titan Salvage and Harbor Star have so far extracted three air-conditioning units from the ship as of Tuesday morning. The report said the crewmen expect to extract the pesticides before the day is over, adding they expect an easier time getting the pesticides out than getting the endosulfan out. On the other hand, the crewmen said they have yet to see remains of passengers trapped inside the capsized vessel. Meanwhile, dzBB radio's Carlo Mateo reported that a task force handling the tragedy ordered the capsized ship's owner, Sulpicio Lines Inc., to post a ship near the shipwreck. Coast Guard commandant Vice Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo said the ship will accommodate the remains of passengers that may be recovered from the capsized ship. Also, Tamayo ordered a Coast Guard search-and-rescue ship to escort the barge carrying endosulfan to Manila. The endosulfan is expected to leave Romblon Wednesday, and arrive in Manila on Friday. - GMANews.TV
