NBI nabs gunrunner in buy-bust operation in Morong

MANILA, Philippines – Government agents arrested an suspected a gunrunner and seized a cache of high-powered firearms worth P155,000 in a buy-bust operation in Rizal province, the the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) reported on Thursday.
An informant had tipped the NBI that Glen Bernardo Antipolo, 47-year-old resident of Barangay San Jose in Morong, Rizal, was engaged in the illegal sale of high-powered firearms.
An NBI agent posing as a buyer tried to get the suspect to sell him a gun, but the supplier backed out. But five days later, in the afternoon October 17, poseur-buyer for the NBI and the informant were able to set up a meeting with Antipolo after several phone calls and text messages.
They agreed to meet a convenience store in Morong. From there, the suspect and the informant went to a house nearby and returned several minutes later on board a tricycle with the firearms – an M-16 rifle, two .45-caliber pistols, and 9-mm pistol.
As soon as the suspect accepted the marked money from the poseur-buyer, NBI agents appeared and arrested him.
The operation was conducted by the NBI National Capital Region office, headed by Director Edward Villarta.
The suspect was inquested for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition at the Pasig Prosecutor’s Office. - GMANews.TV
