Army booters beat Ateneo 2-1, stay on top of Filipino Premier League


MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Army scored early goals and managed to stay ahead for good to beat Ateneo FC 2-1 in the inaugural Filipino Premier League Sunday at the PhilSports football pitch in Pasig City. Roel Gener (10th) and Nestorio Margarse (13th) put the Armymen quickly on the board and led them to to their fourth win and first after drawing their last two matches. Army leads the standings with 14 points. In other matches, it was Arirang over Diliman 2-0 and Pasargad FC over Mendiola United 3-2. Giligan's FC and Union FC settled for a 3-3 draw. Lim Jun Hung scored two goals only five minutes apart (15th, 20th) to help Arirang secure third place with six points. A late counterattack courtesy of Jason Cordova's penalty kick (71st) and Randy Jalbuena's goal (78th) forced Giligan's to a draw with Union. Giligan's stayed in second place overall with eight points. Misagh Bahadoran tied the county at 1-1 and Rodney Leyble scored in each half to lead Pasargad, which took fourth spot with six points. - GMANews.TV
