DepEd closely monitoring school canteens vs ‘tainted’ biscuit

MANILA, Philippines - Education officials will patrol school canteens to enforce a ban on a biscuit product that tested positive for melamine in Hong Kong last weekend, a radio report said Tuesday. Radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported that the Department of Education (DepEd) will also formalize an order banning the "Sunflower" Blueberry Cream sandwich biscuits from school canteens. It said the move aims to protect pupils from consuming the product, which Hong Kong authorities found to be positive for melamine last Saturday. The Health department had earlier banned the sale, distribution and exportation of the product pending results of the Bureau of Food and Drugs' (BFAD) re-examination of fresh samples of the product. - GMANews.TV
