Earthquake hits Cebu; no casualty, damages reported

MANILA, Philippines - An intensity-3 earthquake rocked Cebu City shortly past noon Tuesday, but state seismologists said no casualty or damage was reported. In an interview on dzBB radio, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) director Renato Solidum Jr said the earthquake was recorded at 1:14 p.m. and was tectonic in origin. "Hindi naman iyan damaging. Wala tayong ine-expect na damage from that area. Wala tayong nakuhang dagdag na intensity (It is not damaging. We do not expect damage from that area, and we have not received reports of damage in other areas)," Solidum said. Citing information reaching him, Solidum said the quake's epicenter was traced to 16 kilometers southwest of Cebu City. He said the movement of a local fault triggered the quake. - GMANews.TV
