BasketballTV, NBA games return to SkyCable

MANILA, Philippines - Local fans of the National Basketball Association can start rejoicing. A popular local-cable provider has decided to broadcast NBA games again after it cancelled their airing earlier this year. And the timing couldn't have been more perfect. The return of BasketballTV (BTV), the exclusive broadcast partner of the NBA in the Philippines, to SkyCable officially started Tuesday, coinciding with the opening of the NBA season on Wednesday Manila time. But only SkyCable's subscribers outside Metro Manila can avail of BTV for free. Its subscribers within Metro Manila still have to shell out P100 per month to receive BTV, apart from purchasing a requisite "digitalized box" worth P1,500. Only the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela are exempt from the charges in the Metro Manila area and can get BTV for free. Nevertheless, with the SkyCable comeback more Filipinos can enjoy their steady diet of NBA action which was limited to Destiny Cable in Metro Manila beginning January 1 2008, the day SkyCable cut BTV from its roster of channels. Jude Turcuato, the vice president for marketing of Solar Sports, BTV's mother company, said the clear winners are the fans. "It was about pleasing the fans. Their demands have always been there and the clamor [for] NBA basketball has just been too high," he said. - GMANews.TV
