PEP: Eat Bulaga! ratings up as Francis M returns


Francis Magalona's return to Eat Bulaga! last Saturday, October 25, a few months after being diagnosed with leukemia, plus his duet with Pupil's front man Ely Buendia, helped propel the noontime show's ratings to an amazing 27.4 percent-one of the highest ratings ever got by Eat Bulaga! More importantly, Eat Bulaga! also retained its status as the No. 1 Saturday daytime show. Pinoy Records was a far second with 20.9 percent; followed by Wish Ko Lang (18.8 percent), The Singing Bee (18.8 percent), and Takeshi's Castle (18.5 percent) to complete the Top 5. Startalk's 13th anniversary presentation placed sixth with 16.5 percent while Wowowee came in seventh with 16.1 percent. The rest of the Top 10 were occupied by Cinema FPJ, Entertainment Live, and Pilipinas, Game KNB? Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho also maintained its No. 1 position in the primetime race with 35.5 percent; closely followed by Bitoy's Funniest Videos with 33 percent. The rest of the Top 5 were occupied by Imbestigador (29.2 percent), Celebrity Duets (27 percent), and Maalaala Mo Kaya (23.5 percent). Meanwhile, SOP was able to regain the No. 1 position in the daytime race last Sunday, October 26. GMA-7s musical-variety show generated a 17.3 percent rating compared to the 15.9 percent of rival program ASAP '08, which came in second place. In the battle of showbiz talk shows, Showbiz Central triumphed once again by virtue of its 12.8 percent rating. Its rival show, The Buzz, got 10 percent. Showbiz Central featured the birthday presentation of co-host Pia Guanio and live interviews with Sunshine Dizon and JC de Vera while The Buzz welcomed the return of Kris Aquino and celebrated the birthday of Boy Abunda. Mel & Joey's Halloween presentation topped the primetime race with 28.4 percent; followed by All Star K (25.7 percent), Tok! Tok! Tok! Isang Milyon Pasok (24.4 percent), Kap's Amazing Stories (23.6 percent), and Rated K (22.3 percent). Meanwhile, Gagambino continues to spin its web on the weekday primetime race since its debut last week. The Dennis Trillo-starrer posted its highest rating so far last Friday, October 24, with 36.5 percent. Five other Kapuso shows took the second to sixth spots: La Lola (35.5 percent), Survivor Philippines (31.5 percent), Codename: Asero (30.9 percent), Part 1 of Bubble Gang's 13th anniversary presentation (30.5 percent), and 24 Oras (27.7 percent). The rest of the Top 10 was occupied by the following ABS-CBN shows: Iisa Pa Lamang, TV Patrol World, I Love Betty La Fea, and Dyosa. Eat Bulaga! was the No. 1 daytime show with 25.5 percent; followed by Kapuso soaps Una Kang Naging Akin (22.9 percent), Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan (21.6 percent), Daisy Siete (20.2 percent), and Marimar (18.1 percent).
