MANILA, Philippines - The driver of the "killer bus" that caused a fatal accident along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) last Oct. 21 may no longer be allowed to drive any bus, jeep, taxi or any public utility vehicle for at least one year.
In a radio interview, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chair Thompson Lantion on Monday said the agency came up with the recommendation against bus driver Martinito Madrid following hearings on the accident that killed Dr. Francisco Sarabia.
"Recommended ang cancellation ng kanyang pahintulot na magmaneho ng public utility bus ng isang taon. Ang recommendation namin, banned siya sa pagmamaneho ng public utility vehicle (We recommended to ban him from driving any public utility bus for one year, and to ban him from driving any public utility vehicle)," Lantion said in an interview on dwIZ radio.
Madrid was the driver of a Joanna Jesh bus that slammed into a sedan driven by Sarabia. The impact caused the sedan to burst into flames, killing Sarabia.
At least three other persons were wounded in the incident. The drivers of Joanna Jesh were also made to undergo a retraining and seminar on traffic safety.
Lantion said the drivers of Joanna Jesh are expected to complete their course from Nov. 4 to 6.
