LTFRB mulls salary standards for bus drivers

MANILA, Philippines – In a bid to curb the number of road accidents caused by speeding buses, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is studying the possibility of imposing a fixed monthly salary for bus drivers. A radio dzBB report quoted LTFRB chair Thompson Lantion as saying that the bus drivers, who get their compensation from the 10 percent commission from the profit they make every trip, are often rushing in a bid to increase the number of their daily trips. On Saturday, a speeding Fermina Express bus figured in a deadly head-on collision with a utility vehicle. The accident left five dead and 56 others injured. A fiery predawn mishap also occurred on October 21 when a Johanna Jesh bus slammed into the rear of a Mercedes Benz sedan and killed doctor Francisco Sarabia. - GMANews.TV
