Second earthquake hits parts of Bicol, Samar


MANILA, Philippines – Hours after a magnitude-5 earthquake hit parts of Bicol and Samar, another quake hit the two regions Thursday afternoon. In its bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the latest earthquake was recorded at 3:45 p.m. with a magnitude of 5.1. Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity 4 in Sorsogon City; Intensity 3 at Catarman town in Northeast Samar province, Legazpi City in Albay, and Virac town, Catanduanes. It was also felt at Intensity 2 in Can-avid town in Eastern Samar province. It said the earthquake, with the epicenter traced at 43 kilometers northeast of Sorsogon City in Sorsogon province, was of tectonic origin. No damages were reported and no aftershocks are expected, Phivolcs said. Earlier in the day around 9 a.m., a magnitude-5.0 earthquake hit the two regions, and was felt at Intensity 3 in Sorsogon City in Sorsogon province, Legaspi City in Albay province, Virac, Catanduanes, and Catarman town in Northern Samar.
