STOCKHOLM, Sweden – A Swedish feminist party says it will push for abortion to be considered a human right as it campaigns for a seat in the European Union parliament.
Feminist Initiative spokeswoman Veronica Svard says the party is responding to religious groups' lobbying for the issue of free abortion to be removed from the European agenda.
She said Monday that "women must have the right to decide over their own bodies."
The feminist party was formed in 2005 but is not currently represented in the Swedish or European Parliament.
Abortion is available on request in most European countries except Andorra, Ireland, Malta, Monaco and Poland. Restrictions also exist in Cyprus, Luxembourg and Portugal. - AP
