Survey shows 3 of 4 Pinoys reject Cha-cha

MANILA, Philippines - About three in four Filipinos who are aware of the issue frown on moves to amend the 1987 Constitution, according to a survey conducted by militant think tank IBON Foundation.

The survey said that of 1,494 respondents interviewed last Oct. 1 to 10, 72.36% said they were aware that "the Arroyo administration has a proposal to amend or change" the 1987 Charter.

Of this 72.36%, 77.43% answered "No" when asked, "Are you in favor of the proposal of the current administration to change the Constitution."

In contrast, 18.41% answered "Yes," 3.89% answered "Don't Know" and 0.28% gave "no answer."

The "rejection" of Charter change was stronger than in April, when only 68% said "No" to amending the Charter, and 25.68% said "Yes." In January, 72.06% said "No," and 17.80% said "Yes."

"Majority of Filipinos continue to reject moves to amend the Constitution or charter change (Cha-cha)," IBON said. - GMANews.TV
